Florence Grunow played basketball during an era quite different than today. Women's basketball was an example of the difference. Three offensive players played half court, while three defensive players played on the half court. Florence was the center on the team coached by Herb Sutter - yes! Herb Sutter. Florence was also a member of the fencing team, a sport long-forgotten in Wagner athletics. She was also active in the college community, participating in various student government roles. A 1938 graduate, Florence still remains active today, serving as a choir directory. She also swims, canoes and is an avid cyclist. Florence and her husband Ralph Gode have three children: Karen, Brian, and David. Florence and Ralph are also grandparents of six.
