In an 11-year coaching career from 1979-90, Gela Mikalauskas won 174 games. The 174 victories ranks second in the Wagner College athletics history. The only other coach in any sport with more victories is Herb Sutter with 352 wins in 29 years. Mikalauskas also served as an Assistant Athletic Director in 1980 and in 1981 was promoted to Associate Athletic Director. Her overall record at Wagner was 174-134. She coached three 20-win teams and two 18-win teams. Mikalauskas was honored in 1984 as the Metropolitan Coach of the Year in Division I. She also received the same award in 1989 as well as being tabbed as Converse Coach of the Year in New York State and the Northeast Conference Coach of the Year. During her rein as head coach of women's basketball, every player that participated for four years graduated in four years. Gela Mikalauskas resides in New Dorp with her husband Greg.
