Class of 1950
Jim played four years of Seahawk basketball and even two more on the football team in his freshman and sophomore years. Jim led the Seahawk hoopsters to one of the best records in school history, 19-5 in 1949-50. In that season, the team won the Greater New York Conference winning all seven league contests. Led the team in scoring with 311 points. Gilmartin was named to the Greater NY Conference All-Star first team as a junior and senior. He was named the Most Valuable Player in the Middle Atlantic States Tournament at the Palestra in March of 1949. He captained the 1949 and 1950 squads. An outstanding athlete, Jim has completed seven marathons. Still active in sports, Jim is a high school soccer, basketball and softball official and resides on Staten Island with his wife, formerly Christine Thing. They have four daughters, Catherine, Patricia, Elizabeth and Christine.
